QSound stereo enhancement and audio virtualization technologies to be demonstrated at the Symbian Smartphone Show

The Symbian Smartphone Show, London, UK and Calgary, Alberta - October 21, 2008 -- QSound Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ: QSND), a leading developer of audio and voice software solutions, today announced that its mQFX audio effects enhancement technology is now available as an OpenMax IL component for Symbian OS™. Symbian will be demonstrating the mQFX audio technology at its booth at the Symbian Smartphone Show which opens today in London.

OpenMax IL (Integration Layer) is a standardized media interface that enables content developers and platform providers to integrate and communicate with multimedia codecs implemented in hardware or software components thus reducing the cost and complexity of porting multimedia software to new processors and architectures.

“The integration of the OpenMax IL implementation of QSound’s mQFX into Symbian OS is a good example of how partner co-operation provides leadership and competitive advantages in the marketplace,” said Anthony Newpower, Director of OS Product Management, Symbian. “We value OpenMax IL components as it underscores our commitment to providing our customers with best in class technology, lower integration costs and reduced time to market.”

mQFX is an audio effects suite that delivers leading-edge spatial and spectral audio enhancements along with dynamic volume and range controllers for mobile multimedia devices. Along with QSound’s QSurround Mobile, a multi-channel audio virtualization technology, mQFX offers extended functionality for Symbian mobile phones, bringing a rich, immersive listening experience to all types of mobile multimedia content. The availability of mQFX and QSurround Mobile on Symbian OS provides an attractive, compelling technology and licensing proposition for mobile OEMs seeking to differentiate their products with enhanced multimedia functionality.

“Symbian is the market leader for smartphones with over 226 million cumulative shipments worldwide, so having the ability to co-operate closely on projects is very important to QSound,” said David Gallagher, President and CEO of QSound labs, Inc. “We look forward to continuing this partnership and consequently keeping our roadmaps aligned.”
